So what is a waypoint?

It is a “pin” with a GPS coordinate that can be placed on a map. These waypoints can be placed in the air as well.
Above is a 3D representation of an orthomosaic image of a property that I captured with one of my drones. The waypoints are represented in the air and where they are represented is where the drone was when it captured the nadir image. Note also that my drones can follow the shape of the terrain to assist with creating 3D models

I can program my drones to fly along the same path, altitude, speed, and with the same camera angles along the way.

Below are examples of different photos taken during different flights, on different dates, at the same waypoint in the sky.

The images captured were from essentially the same exact spot while in flight.

The benefit of this for you would be able to show the before and after of your project.

The photos below are just random shots of some buildings from the air
to provide you with examples of consistent repeatable results.
